Brakel - VR animations

Brakel fabricates enclosed workspaces which are called Qubes. These Qubes are well isolated and therefore soundproof, but also the air is conditioned and well regulated. The Qubes also provide the necessary quality of life options like quality lighting and via a technical panel features like a power outlet and an internet connection.

These Qubes are modular and can be built to specs provided by the customer. This makes these Qubes ideal for noisy workplaces and/or areas where social distancing is key.

Brakel wanted to show these advantages at a trade-fair to their potential new customers with animations of different versions of the Qube in a variety of environments.

To convey their message as immersive as possible, Brakel chose to have the animations rendered in VR.

With the help of VR Expert, the animations could be played via a web interface on two Pico 4 VR headsets. The results were quite impressive.

Rendering these animations was quite a learning experience for us. Although the basics of setting up VR worlds was already explored in an earlier project for Captain Dave, rendering the interiors into VR animations were a complete different beast.

Finding a render engine that could actually cope with the very high resolutions and frame rates was quite the ordeal. GPU render engines simply did not have the memory to deal with these colossal files. In the end Chaos's Corona Render (CPU) saved the day.

Beides the environment VR animations Brakel also requested 2 animations that showcased the modular nature of the Qubes.

One animation showed the Qube being constructed from the ground up. The second animation is a display how cubes can be extended to larger configurations.

These animations were actually easier to render since the environments were not that complicated in contrast to the other animations.
